It’s an interesting dynamic. Gaijin (foreigners) are infatuated with Japan’s disciplined values, natural landscapes, magical cuisine, martial arts, as well as its technologies, from cars to cameras. Simultaneously, the eclectic subset of young Japanese are enamored with our hip-hop culture (especially Wu-Tang Clan), reggae rhythms, urban fashion, and American sports like Jordan and the Bulls.
When you visit Tokyo, be sure to spend half a day in the Harajuku district to experience the vibe and tap into a world full of fascination. I kicked it with a few Japanese brothers and exchanged deep thoughts and curiosity, including their favorite Wu artists. The RZA always stood atop the list. Definitely stop in Blackanny-TKO to pick up a few fashion pieces from Japanese designers who put their spin on Black culture.
Specifically, my daughters went crazy as they discovered unique brands while crossing paths with Harajuku girls, known for their street-style fits and unconventional standards. They are far from tradition.
Experience life!
